Simutrans

Take the words “transport” and “simulator”, put them together, and you end up with Simutrans, the name of an interesting game that tasks you with establishing a successful transport company. Get this game and you will get to build all sorts of buildings, transport passengers and goods either by land, air or water, manage your vehicles, and watch your finances. You can play locally or you can play online.

Simutrans is available for multiple operating systems: Windows, OS X, and Linux. This means that you can create the transport networks you always dreamed of, no matter if you’re playing on a PC, on a Mac, or on a Linux desktop.

Putting the spotlight on Microsoft’s Windows operating system, it must be mentioned that installing Simutrans on a PC is an effortless task. Download an installer, run it, and a setup wizard will show up; it will guide you through all the steps you need to take to get Simutrans up and running on your PC.

The goal in this game, as the official Simutrans website explains, is to “establish a successful transport company and build the necessary infrastructure to transport passengers, mail and goods between cities, factories and touristic attractions by land, air and water.” I’m not going to explain how to play the game, that would take too long. What I am going to say though is that the Help documentation has lots of useful information to offer. Access the Help if you want to learn how to play this game.

Simutrans is free and open-source software.

This is a must have game for anyone who is into transport simulators!
